Sawdust Spawn is the most economical way to grow mushrooms in natural logs. The extra piece of equipment you'll need is an Inoculation Tool. For more information on inoculating logs see our page on Inoculating Logs in our Resourcessection.
Grifola frondosa grows experimentally in hardwood logs or stacked log wafers in plastic bags, and most reliably in sterilized sawdust & woodchip bags.
One Kilogram bag (2.2 lb.) of sawdust spawn will inoculate about 20 logs having an average size of 4″ diam. x 40″ long.
*We currently have a limited supply of 5.5lb bags*
